Special Education

Kathy Hellfier

Preschool SDC, Room 14

Hi, I'm Kathy Hellfeier and I am the teacher in one of our early childhood special day classes. I have been teaching in Vallejo since 1989, with the majority of my experience in Special Education. I have been working with young children in a variety of settings for 40 years and I can not imagine life without children in it. I believe all children deserve a quality education and do my best make that happen!

Laura Odneal

K-2 SDC, Room 25

Hello!  My name is Laura Odneal, or as my students have come to call me Ms. O.  I have been a part of the Dan Mini special education team for the past 3 years and have loved every minute of it.  I received my bachelor’s degree from Sacramento State in 2013 and my teaching credential and Master’s degree from Brandman University in 2015.  I knew I wanted to be a teacher since I was young.  Being involved in the Girl Scouts I had opportunities to teach and lead younger girls and found that I had a passion for it.

I came to have a passion for teaching children with special needs because of my amazing goddaughter, who is disabled.  Working with her has taught me compassion, patience, and most of all helped me develop a sense of understanding of how to work with her.  This is what I bring into my classroom and bring to my students on a daily basis.

Some fun facts about me:  I love anything that is green, I am a huge San Francisco Giants fan, I love giraffes, I am a Girl Scout leader and a Boy Scout leader, I love anything Disney, and I love to travel.

I am looking forward to a great school year and having your child in my class!

Ryan Aspiras

Speech, Room 37

Hello! My name is Mr. Ryan Aspiras. I completed my Bachelor of Science Degree and Master of Science Degree in Speech Language Pathology at CSU Sacramento. I grew up in Vallejo and I am very excited to return to my hometown as a clinical fellow speech language pathologist. My experience in diagnostic and therapeutic services includes school-age populations in academic and clinic environments. I have a special interest in the early intervention population, expressive and receptive language disorders, language and learning disabilities, pragmatic language delays, and alternative augmentative communication. In the future, I hope to further my professional development to incorporate the design and development of educational technology including implementation and evaluation. I also enjoy indoor bouldering, long-distance running, and weekend bike rides.

I look forward to collaborating with everyone!
